Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu says he was filled with pride to hear his name linked with a big-money move to Barcelona.

The Turkish star says he was pleased to hear of links to the Spanish giants and is also targeting an international return for Turkey

The 21-year-old has been in fine form since his €14.5 million arrival from Hamburg this past summer, sparking speculation of a switch to Camp Nou.

The midfielder’s agent said that he has no interest in moving to Barca, but Calhanoglu himself is delighted to hear of the links.

“There is no official offer but I was proud to hear of the transfer rumours,” he told TRT.

“My agent will take over in transfer dealings, but right now I feel good at Leverkusen.

“I have career goals but firstly we want to beat Altetico Madrid in the Champions League.”

Calhanoglu also spoke about his international future after Turkey coach Fatih Terim watched him during his side’s recent Champions League clash with Atleti.

He was left out of the squad by Terim following a May 2013 incident in a hotel room when he was involved in a dispute between team-mates Gokhan Tore and Omer Toprak that allegedly resulted in a gun being brandished.

“Terim came to see the first leg against Atletico,” he said.

“After the game he left but he called me and we talked positively about the future.

“I miss the national team and I want to keep playing for Turkey. If Terim calls me back then I want to play against Netherlands on March 28.”
